RAGTRADE Atlanta: The New Class

RAGTRADE Atlanta 2015One of the best things that an organization like RAGTRADE Atlanta does is bring attention to new and upcoming designers within and around Atlanta.  This year’s show introduced us to three new designers that this city can and should be proud of.  The quality of work and the varying points of view of these new designers, as well as the alums, really just further proves that Atlanta is the next emerging fashion powerhouse.

Brendan Combs Spring/Summer 2016 RAGTRADE AtlantaBrendan Combs kicked off the night with his dark and sultry collection.  Brocades and gold embellishments were the cornerstones of his looks.  Brendan seemed to have a lot of fun playing around with the silhouettes of his pieces, giving them a modern flair, that was a great stand-out from the other collections.  He definitely has an eye for the haute couture amongst us, but he also does simple and understated pieces beautifully as well, like the wide-leg jumpsuit below.

Sylvia Mollie

Sylvia Mollie Spring/Summer 2016 RAGTRADE AtlantaOoooh! This lady!  I got to speak with Kenya Freeman, lead designer and visionary behind Sylvia Mollie, the night before the show and she has such an effervescent personality that really comes through in her designs.  Like Natt Taylor, Kenya embraces color.  She also adds little unexpected twists like her cowl-turtleneck idea that she utilized beautifully on several pieces.  She definitely had my hands down favorite piece of the night with a beautifully cut and printed coat.  I am committed to becoming her best friend so I can steal this piece for myself as well as several other pieces from the collection.

Zachary/Nathaniel

Zachary/Nathaniel Spring/Summer 2016 RAGTRADE Atlanta

On a drama scale of 1 – 10, Zachary Howell of Zachary/Nathaniel would be the Phantom of the Opera Overture (man I’ve been sitting on that joke for awhile).  Zachary dealt almost exclusively in black leathers, satins, pretty much any rich looking textile he could get his hands on, all tailored impeccably.  His evening wear was lux, fashion forward, and gender neutral 😉 .  His final look, a off-white gown with a plunging square neckline really showed his ability to think of evening wear in a fresh and youthful way while still maintaining an inherent level of elegance.
