I have always truly believed that I was born 50 years late. If I had been born in the 30′s, it would have been me hoofin’ it alongside Gene Kelly and Donald O’Connell instead of Debbie Reynolds. I’ve always loved the 50′s. The dramatic silhouettes, the full skirts, pillbox purses, and especially the necessity to constantly be dressed to the nines, even if it’s just for a Sunday afternoon drive. The clothes just seemed to flatter everyone. Years ago, Banana Republic started having a yearly capsule collection inspired by Mad Men that was a difficult practice in restraint on my part because I had to have everything. I did allow myself to walk away with this vintage-inspired dress among a couple of other pieces. The last collection was released a little over a year ago, so fingers crossed that this little sartorial tradition continues.
And a special thanks to the talented Nicole Thomas for having some fun with my hair
