NYFW: Fall/Winter 2016

Another fashion week is in the books and we have another season of great style to look forward to.  There were quite a few trends that could be seen across almost all of the designers this year.  There was no shortage of prints, coats, neck bows, metallics, and silky dresses on the runway.  Looking forward to this year’s Fall season, one thing is for sure, it’s going to be quite glamorous.  I’m so ready!

The last several fashion weeks have been showcasing prints more and more.  This season we can see it continuing to grow in popularity with designers going all in with outfits that are head-to-toe prints.  Whether it’s animal, geometric, or abstract these prints are lively, colorful, and not for the faint of heart.

Obviously coats play a large role in the Fall and Winter season.  Coats have sort of become statement pieces in their own right over the last several years.  This year’s autumn season will see the coats become longer and even more head-turning with the incorporated use of the aforementioned embrace of prints.  I especially love the styling by several designers of a printed coat over a complimentary printed outfit.  Yes, please!

Trend: Precious Metals

I love anytime a fall color trend contradicts the typical neutral palatte that so many people cling to.  Metallics have sort of been on the fringe of fashion the last several seasons and it looks like they are about to move more into the mainstream.  Metallics can be a great way to bridge the color gap in Fall because they pair so easily with neutrals that usually abound this time of year.

Trend: Roaring 20’s

This is where the glamour kicks into high gear!  Art deco prints and patterns plus all things silver and sparkly and WHAM! you’ve got yourself a 20’s trend.  Oh how I wish I had been born into the flapper and fringe era, but c’est la vie.  These looks are equal parts festive and feminine.  I personally can’t wait to see how this trend trickles down into retail.

Another color this Fall that will pair well with your neutrals is pale pink and it was everywhere on the runway this year.  This is another extension of Fall trends we’ve seen growing over several seasons.  Designers are becoming more and more comfortable with non-traditional Fall colors as are many of the top street wear stylists.

Trend: Give ‘Em the Slip

The 90’s have had quite a resurgence in fashion.  So it’s no surprise that the slip dress alla Kate Moss and the heroin chic era of fashion is popping up more and more.  Whereas in the 90s the slip dress was used as a part of the minimalist fashion of that decade, designers are having a bit more fun with funky flourishes and proportions in today’s reincarnation.
