Highland Bakery

Highland BakeryWhen I first moved to Atlanta (almost 7 years ago!), me and my new friends liked to find fun restaurants around the city to 1) better learn our way around the city and 2) become the slightly co-dependent bunch that we are today (Card Club 2K9!).  One place that quickly became a large part of our weekend routine was Highland Bakery (and 5 Guys if we’re being completely honest).  Highland Bakery is an institution in Atlanta.  If you’re visiting, this is a must-eat place.  Atlanta takes it’s brunching seriously, and at Highland Bakery, you should consider anything under a 90 minute wait a huge success while also acknowledging that it’s food is worth waiting every minute for.

I recommend starting your brunching hour with a little something from Highland Bakery’s … well… bakery.  Highland gets you as soon as you walk in, making you wait for a table between several beautifully arranged glass cases of sweets and biscuits and a literal wall of fresh bread.  My favorite item is the sweet potato biscuits.  You can get a couple of mini’s to snack on or a large biscuit to share with the table.  They are a light little snack that you’ll want to tide you over during your wait for a coveted table.

Brunch Basic: Highland Breakfast Highland Bakery Classic Breakfast

For those traditionalists out there, the Highland Breakfast has all of your staples.  Eggs, toast, bacon, and the most perfect breakfast potatoes you can imagine.  Seriously, no matter what my hunger level, I’ve gotta have some of the potatoes.  Highland Bakery can do some fancy cooking that is no dobut impressive, but they can also do classic and simple food and do it well.

Highland Bakery Classic Eggs Benedict Best Buy: Any of the Eggs Benedict

Like I said, Highland Bakery is great with getting creative, which is sort of funny considering their Eggs Benedict (a classic for sure) mostly benefits from their twist on the usual hollandaise.  Highland Bakery serves a jalapeno cheddar sauce that customers tend to want on everything and keeps people coming back weekend after weekend.  Highland has several variations of the breakfast Benedict so feel free to mix and match your proteins and sauces to your hearts content.  It’s all delicious so you can’t go wrong.
