DIY: The Aroma of Fall

DIY Fall Aroma Simmer Pot

This might sound weird, but one of my favorite parts of the holiday season is all of the smells I associate with this time of year.  The smell of pumpkin pie baking, the smell of pine, even the cold has a smell I think (okay you can judge me for that last one).  But in all seriousness, some of these sensory smells just warm my heart.  Years ago, my friend Megan introduced me to the stovetop version of all of my favorite seasonal smells.  As I started to buy the ingredients to get my apartment smelling at it’s seasonal best, I thought that a great hostess gift this year (since the holiday parties are just around the corner) would be a bottled version of this great trick for your home.  I just followed these steps with some extra mason jars I had (like every good southern woman) and added some cranberries for a little extra color.  This is a super easy DIY and is something you can customize however you’d like.  This jars are good for about 3 weeks in the refrigerator before being used, and once the contents have been simmered in a pot on low, you can continue to re-use for the next day or two by just adding a bit more water each time.
